   Pre-chill one Martini glass, chop five fresh kumquats, and prepare one small pale-green grape on a short plain pick.

   Muddle the chopped kumquats firmly in the base of a shaker until their juice and fragrant peel oils are released.

   Add the grappa, elderflower liqueur, rich simple syrup, and solid cold ice to the shaker.

   Shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds, then fine-strain into the chilled glass so no fruit pulp remains.
