   Chill a heavy rocks glass; cut one small lemon slice and reserve one neat strawberry for garnish.

   Add the lemon wedges, remaining strawberry, and rich Demerara syrup to a shaker and muddle firmly to release juice and aromatic oils.

   Measure the amaro and lightly aged rum into the shaker with the muddled fruit.

   Seal the shaker and dry-shake without ice for about 8 seconds to integrate the fruit and spirits.

   Pour the complete mixture into the chilled rocks glass, then fill neatly with cracked ice and top slowly with soda water.

   Stir once gently, add the small lemon slice and reserved strawberry at the rim, and serve while lively.
