What cocktails can you make without a shaker?

Short answer

Choose a built drink such as a Moscow Mule or Cuba Libre, or a stirred drink such as a Negroni. Their published Kokto methods do not require shaking. Built drinks are mixed in the serving glass; the Negroni still needs a mixing vessel, spoon and a way to strain it over fresh ice.

These three examples were selected from Kokto’s built and stirred recipes and checked against their written steps. This is a small equipment-led selection, not a claim that every cocktail can be made without shaking.

Start with a built drink for less equipment

For the Moscow Mule, use a mug or highball glass, a measure, a spoon and ice. The vodka and lime go into the serving glass, followed by cold ginger beer. The Cuba Libre follows a similar workflow with aged rum, lime and cola. Both recipes finish with a gentle lift of the ice to combine the mixer. Read the full quantities before pouring.

No shaker does not mean no tools

A Negroni uses a separate mixing glass and is strained onto fresh serving ice in Kokto’s specification. You still need accurate measurement and the equipment for those steps. If you only have a serving glass and spoon, choose one of the built recipes here instead of assuming that the stirred method uses identical equipment.

Keep the published method intact

The linked Mule and Cuba Libre recipes add the carbonated mixer after combining their other ingredients. Follow that sequence rather than treating them as shaken drinks. Conversely, this guide does not relabel a Margarita or Daiquiri as no-shaker recipes: their published methods require shaking.

Choose by what is already in your bar

With vodka and ginger beer, check the Mule’s lime requirement. With aged rum and cola, check the Cuba Libre. With gin, red bitter aperitif and sweet vermouth, compare the Negroni. A shorter tool list does not eliminate missing ingredients. Open the linked ingredient pages and compare the complete recipe before buying anything.

Quick answers

Which option uses the least mixing equipment?

The Moscow Mule and Cuba Libre are built in their serving glass. The Negroni is stirred separately and strained in the published recipe, so it needs more mixing equipment even though none of these drinks uses a shaker.

Can I just stir a Margarita instead?

This guide does not claim that stirring reproduces the published shaken Margarita. Choose a recipe whose written method matches your tools rather than silently changing its technique.

Are no-shaker cocktails automatically lower in alcohol?

No. The mixing method does not establish alcohol content. Compare the ingredients and serving quantities of each recipe; Kokto’s strength profile is a taste signal, not an ABV measurement.
