   Pre-chill one clear heavy rocks glass, prepare one large clear cube, and select exactly one small fresh bay leaf.

   Measure the birch eau-de-vie, gentian liqueur, bergamot liqueur, and red bitter aperitif into a mixing glass.

   Fill the mixing glass with solid cold ice and place a bar spoon against the inner wall.

   Stir smoothly for 20–25 seconds until the bittersweet mixture is very cold and properly diluted.

   Strain into the chilled rocks glass over the single large clear cube without transferring mixing ice.

   Rest exactly one small fresh bay leaf flat on the ice and serve without another garnish.
