   Pre-chill one Collins glass, chill filtered water thoroughly, cut one short lemon zest strip, and select one compact mint sprig.

   Fill the glass with fresh clear cubed ice and stir until meltwater collects at the base and the glass becomes frosty.

   Strain away the meltwater, top the glass back to the rim with fresh clear ice, and measure in the blended Scotch.

   Stir the whisky and ice smoothly, replacing any settled volume with more ice so the column remains full.

   Pour in the chilled still water, stir briefly to integrate, then express the lemon oils over the surface and discard the peel.

   Place the single compact mint sprig upright at the rim and serve without a straw or another garnish.
