   Pre-chill a clear Collins glass, chill the tonic water, and cut exactly one very thin small fresh apple slice.

   Fill the chilled Collins glass to the top with fresh clear ice.

   Measure the Calvados directly into the ice-filled serving glass.

   Add the optional aromatic bitters, then pour the cold tonic gently down the inside of the glass; never shake it.

   Lift the contents once or twice with a bar spoon, keeping the tonic's carbonation lively.

   Secure the single thin apple slice at the rim and serve immediately without any additional garnish.
