   Chill a coupe and coat only the outer rim with one narrow, even band of granulated sugar.

   Measure the watermelon juice, ouzo-style anise liqueur, lemon juice, and demerara syrup into a shaker.

   Fill the shaker three-quarters full with solid ice and seal it firmly.

   Shake vigorously for 10 seconds until the pink mixture is thoroughly cold and lightly aerated.

   Fine strain into the prepared coupe without disturbing or wetting the sugar rim.

   Serve immediately with the sugar rim as the only garnish; do not add fruit or herbs.
