Garnish: Orange twist

   Chill a small coupe and cut one compact orange twist without excess white pith.

   Measure the white rum, sweet vermouth, and dry curaçao into a mixing glass; add the optional chilled water only when using hard, dry freezer ice.

   Fill the mixing glass with solid ice and stir for 20–25 seconds until very cold and properly diluted.

   Fine-strain into the chilled coupe, leaving all mixing ice behind.

   Express the orange oils over the surface and place the compact twist neatly at the rim.

   Check the glass for drips and serve immediately.
