   Chill a coupe and cut one narrow orange twist suitable for expressing or briefly flaming the oils.

   Measure the gin, grapefruit juice, maraschino liqueur, absinthe, cherry liqueur, red bitter aperitif, and rich syrup into a shaker; add the optional chilled water only with hard, dry freezer ice.

   Fill with ice and shake hard for 10–15 seconds until thoroughly chilled.

   Fine-strain into the chilled coupe so no ice chips or grapefruit pulp pass through.

   Express the orange oils over the drink, flame them only if you can do so safely, and secure the narrow twist at the rim.

   Ensure no flame remains, wipe the glass, and serve immediately.
